The warmer weather means that spring is coming. And with spring comes the beginning of summer, which means you're probably going to want to start thinking about pest control. It's smart to take some preventative steps now so that you don't have any issues later on. Here are some tips for keeping pests out of your yard this spring:

Keep your yard clean and free of debris.
Mow grass and trim hedges regularly, especially around the foundation of your home.
Trim trees so there's no bark for insects to cling to or hide under.
Keep bushes trimmed back from the house so they can't harbor nesting insects like termites, spiders or ants (which in turn can help attract other pests).
Clear away fallen leaves so they don't become breeding grounds for mosquitoes or other creepy crawlers that might make their way indoors when you do!
Make sure there aren't any cracks or crevices in the foundation of your home.
Check the outside of your home for any gaps or cracks.
If you have a crawl space, make sure that it is sealed up so that insects cannot get inside.
Keep your gutters clean.
Clogged gutters can cause water to back up, making it difficult for your roof to drain properly. Keep gutter debris from building up by cleaning them regularly and using a leaf guard or baffle to prevent clogs in the future.
Don't use mulch to deal with standing water.
Mulch can be a great way to protect your lawn, but it can also attract rodents. When mice and rats are attracted to mulch, they’re more likely to make their homes in your yard or near your home. If you want to use mulch, try keeping it away from the house and do not allow any standing water to accumulate near the structure of your home. Instead of using mulch on your lawns and gardens, consider using gravel or stones instead.
Gravel is a much better choice than mulch because it allows rainwater to drain through it quickly—it won’t sit there waiting for animals like mice or rats who want an easy meal!
Only use wood that is completely dry around the house.
Don't use wood that is wet or damp. If you have to move your furniture, it's best to do so when the wood is completely dry.
Don't use wood that has been sitting outside for a long time. The longer the piece of furniture stays in the sun, the more mold and dust will collect on its surface, which can cause serious health problems if you breathe in any of those particles. Just think about what happens when you leave bread outside for too long! It gets moldy! And then it starts growing mushrooms! Gross! So don't let your furniture get like that either by only using dry wood inside your home and garage

Fill any cavities in trees with concrete or some other type of filler.
Termites are attracted to wood that is rotting or damaged, so if you notice any damage, make sure to fix it. Fill the cavity with concrete or some other type of filler. This will prevent termites from getting into your house and attacking your furniture or walls.
